Sport & Activity
London will host the greatest sporting event in 2012, when the Olympics and Paralympics take place over 6 weeks during the summer. In the lead up to 2012, sport and physical activity are in the spotlight, and we want to make the most of this once in a lifetime opportunity.
One of the ambitions of the London 2012 organisers is that more people will get active, or do more sport. In West Sussex we share this ambition, and have committed to doing what we can to encourage more people to `get active and get sporty`. We have a target to increase the number of people doing sport three times a week – just over 1 in 5 of us do this amount now. We also want to make sure that potential future Olympians or Paralympians are fully supported to achieve their best.
We are working with businesses and employers to encourage Active Workplaces across the county, and are focussing on disability sport through the inspiration of the Paralympics.
The great outdoors of West Sussex offers over 2500 miles (c. 4000 km) of public paths and bridleways. From a gentle stroll on the downs and Wheelchair Walks, to off-road biking and horse-riding, the county has it all. For advice and tips on `healthy living` visit the NHS West Sussex web site.
