Ensuring everyone in West Sussex benefits...

Sport & Activity

Badminton PlayerLondon will host the greatest sporting event in 2012, when the Olympics and Paralympics take place over 6 weeks during the summer. In the lead up to 2012, sport and physical activity are in the spotlight, and we want to make the most of this once in a lifetime opportunity.

One of the ambitions of the London 2012 organisers is that more people will get active, or do more sport. In West Sussex we share this ambition, and have committed to doing what we can to encourage more people to `get active and get sporty`.

We are working with businesses and employers to encourage Active Workplaces across the county; we feature a range of sports events as part of London 2012 Open Weekend in July; and we are profiling talented sportspeople with connections to the county, who have the potential to be competing in 2012.

The great outdoors of West Sussex offers over 2500 miles (c. 4000 km) of public paths and bridleways. From a gentle stroll on the downs and Wheelchair Walks, to off-road biking and horse-riding, the county has it all. For information on walking, cycling and horse-riding in West Sussex, visit the West Sussex County Council information page.

For advice and tips on `healthy living` visit the NHS West Sussex web site.

In this section, you will also find links to other useful information, including listings of facilities and sports clubs, and the latest news of London 2012 pre-games training camps.
