Get 'on your marks' for London 2012 business opportunities

West Sussex businesses are being encouraged to 'get on their marks' to make the most of the opportunities offered by the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics.

There are more than 6,000 businesses contracts on offer for the London 2012 Games. 

Of the companies that have already won contracts, more than 70% are small and medium sized businesses, and 98 per cent are UK-based.

West Sussex – Ahead of the Game, the countywide initiative to help the county make the most of the 2012 Games, is supporting businesses to find out what is on offer and to be ready to bid for contracts.

All businesses wanting to compete for a London 2012 contract will need to have a Quality Management Statement. A free workshop to help businesses put this in place is being held in Arun on the morning of Thursday November 6, at the Hilton Avisford Park Hotel in Walberton, near Arundel. The event is being organised by Business Link in association with West Sussex – Ahead of the Game.

West Sussex County Council Cabinet Member for Environment and Economy, Deborah Urquhart, said: “West Sussex – Ahead of the Game is raising awareness of the opportunities offered by the 2012 Games, and we are pleased to be working with Business Link to provide local businesses with such a valuable training opportunity.”

Councillor Norman Dingemans, Cabinet Member for Economic and Cultural Development for Arun District Council, said: “This is a great opportunity for local businesses to find out how they can showcase their talents on the biggest stage.

“I sincerely hope that our local businesses, no matter how big or small, come along and learn from this worthwhile event.”
