Pupils at four West Sussex schools are developing business and enterprise skills through sport this month.
Sports Masterclasses are unique learning events for Year 10 students studying Physical Education and Sport to explore team working, whilst designing and creating a brand new sport.
Everything from the rules, to equipment design and the marketing of the sport will be discussed. Each event will end with the pupils having to demonstrate their sport to a panel of judges. They’ll then have to pitch to the judges for funding to promote their sport to the community. The events will help to develop a range of skills including team work, budgeting and presentation skills. The events embrace the core values of the London 2012 Education Programme, Get Set.
The Sports Masterclasses have been designed by Young Enterprise in response to the Olympic and Paralympic Games coming to London in 2012.
The schools taking part are:
Littlehampton Academy – Wednesday March 10
Durrington High School – Monday March 15
Bognor Regis Community College – Friday March 19
Shoreham Academy – Wednesday March 31
Students will be able to chat with professionals from the work of sport and leisure. Volunteers for the days are coming from Inspire Leisure, who operate sports centres in Arun; educational support organisation Aimhigher; plus Worthing Borough and Adur District Councils. Young Enterprise, the UK's leading business and enterprise education charity are coordinating the days. Their ethos is based on the principles of learning by doing.
