Schools’ art exhibition part of 2012 project
Posted on 29/05/09
An exhibition of work by eight Arun schools opens on Saturday 6 June.
This year’s Schools’ Art exhibition at Littlehampton Museum takes on a fantastical feel. Eight local schools come together to create a display of some weird and wonderful new creatures, as they journey towards 2012 as part of a project to celebrate the Olympics and Paralympics.
Each of the seven districts and boroughs in West Sussex were given a symbolic egg at the Big Picnics on Olympic Handover Day from Beijing to London in August last year - the Arun egg was revealed at the Big Picnic in Angmering. This year the eggs are ‘hatching’ as they take the next step in their journey towards becoming mythical creatures to take part in 2012 celebrations in the county. Arun creatures such as ‘slugwasps’ and ‘fishybirds’ are being developed as part of this West Sussex-Ahead of the Game four-year project.
Each of the schools taking part have started to develop their own ideas, creating wonderful drawings and clay relief sculptures that will be on show in the Museum’s Hearne Room gallery. The schools taking part are: Arun Vale Infant School, Elm Grove First School, Lyminster Infant School, St Catherine’s Catholic Primary School, St Mary’s Church of England School in Clymping, Wickbourne Infant School, Flora McDonald School and Connaught Junior School.
‘Mythical Creatures of Arun’ runs from Saturday 6th June until Friday 17th July 2009.
