A host of sporting heroes attended the sixth annual Sussex Sports Awards at the Hilton Brighton Metropole to celebrate local sporting achievements across Sussex and to honour the success of Team GB in Beijing.

Over 460 guests attended the glittering evening, hosted by former Sussex County Cricket Club Captain, Chris Adams and Juice FM's Sports Saturday presenter, Tony Marks
The Sussex Sports Awards is one of the most important events in the county's sporting calendar and aims to recognise outstanding achievements and contributions to sport across Sussex – whether from athletes or, the people behind the success – the clubs, coaches, officials, schools, volunteers and parents.
Organised by the Sussex County Sports Partnership Trust - the Sussex Sports Awards forms part of an county-wide strategy to help drive an increased awareness and participation in sport.
For the first time, the general public had the chance to decide who should win and voted for their choice of Sussex Sports Personality and Young Sports Personality of the Year. There was an outstanding response with over 1700 votes cast during the two week voting period.
A host of local and national sporting personalities attended, including Beijing Olympics heroes Richard Schabel (Paralympic Athletics), Ben Hawes (Olympic Hockey GB Captain), Sascha Kindred (Double Gold Paralympic - Swimming), Nyree Lewis (Silver - Paralympic Swimming), David Stone (Double Gold - Paralympic Cycling), Ben Quilter (Paralympic Judo), Oliver Freeman (Olympic Triathlon), and Richard Leman (1988 Seoul Olympics Hockey). We were also joined by some surprise “celebrity” guests, look-a-likes Lewis Hamilton and David Beckham* on the night to congratulate our local champions!
