Volunteer

Volunteers are vital to the success of the London 2012 Games.

Around 70,000 volunteers, or Games Makers, are needed. There are two types of Games Maker roles: specialists, in areas such as medical services, sport or press operations; and generalists, with roles including spectator assistants, uniform distributors and ticket checkers.

Applications to be Games-Makers have now closed, with over 250,000 people from across the United Kingdom applying. Interviews are taking place throughout 2011.

The London 2012 organisers hope that the volunteering spirit will spread wider than the Games themselves, and everyone is being encouraged to give their time to help others if they can. There are lots of opportunities to get involved in volunteering in West Sussex – one of the best starting points is to contact the volunteer centre in your area.

For general information and volunteer centre contact details visit: West Sussex Volunteering. This website is a network of eight Volunteer Centres working together to promote and support voluntary action in your local community.

Many sports clubs in West Sussex are looking for more people to help, and the Ahead of the Game cultural programme is supporting cultural champions to help lead and support arts and cultural activities in the run up to 2012.
