Volunteer
Volunteers will be vital to the success of the London 2012 Games.
Around 70,000 volunteers, or Games Makers, will be needed. There are two types of Games Maker roles: specialists, in areas such as medical services, sport or press operations; and generalists, with roles including spectator assistants, uniform distributors and ticket checkers.
Pre-identified applicants for specialist roles can apply from 27 July 2010 onwards. Applications for generalist roles will open on 15 September this year.
The London 2012 organisers hope that the volunteering spirit will spread wider than the Games themselves, and everyone is being encouraged to give their time to help others if they can. There are lots of opportunities to get involved in volunteering in West Sussex – one of the best starting points is to contact the volunteer centre in your area. Many sports clubs in West Sussex are looking for more people to help, and the Ahead of the Game cultural programme will be recruiting `creative producers` in local communities, to help lead and support arts and cultural activities in the lead up to 2012.
