West Sussex Celebrates
The four year Ahead of the Game cultural programme parallels the national Cultural Olympiad, and kicked off on Olympic Handover Day in 2008. The programme supports West Sussex’s commitment to a countywide celebration to mark the London 2012 Games, and features a high level of involvement of young people; international partnership; and being developed and presented in local communities.
The Ahead of the Game cultural events and activities are involving people across the county. Features include Blue Touch Paper Carnival, awarded the London 2012 Inspire Mark; Whispering Woods, bringing together hundreds of singers to create a public music performance; and a touring festival with a strong international flavour. To help achieve such a range of activities, Community Creative Producers are being encouraged and supported to take a lead in local communities.
