Blue it up July 2009 The London 2012 Games are the inspiration of a four-year cultural celebration, designed to enable the widest range of people across the UK to take part.

All of this kicked off on the Olympic and Paralympic Handover Days in 2008. In West Sussex, we celebrated Olympic Handover Day with the BIG PICNIC, and marked Paralympic Handover Day with a special event to launch West Sussex-Ahead of the Game.

The London 2012 Cultural Olympiad features the Games' ceremonies; major projects; and a range of community activities. The West Sussex-Ahead of the Game cultural programme is offering community activities across the county.

A key date for the cultural celebration each year is London 2012 Open Weekend, marking the countdown to the Opening Ceremony in 2012. The London 2012 Open Weekend 24-26 July 2009 featured twenty-five cultural and sporting events across West Sussex, marking the three-year countdown. The two-year countdown celebrations will be on the 23-25 July 2010 - put the date in the diary!
