Business
Delivering the London 2012 Games is a massive undertaking, requiring goods and services from a huge range of businesses. London 2012 has around 7,000 direct contracts, which will form supply chains of around 75,000 opportunities.
The latest information shows that more than 30 West Sussex businesses have won top-tier London 2012 contracts from the Olympic Delivery Authority or through CompeteFor. They are providing services ranging from drainage and vegetation clearance, to security and publications.
We want to make sure any local business interested in bidding for contracts has the right information and support to help them. Businesses `fit to supply` London 2012 are in a strong position to bid for the £175 billion central and local government contracts awarded each year. The South East Business Portal has information about existing contracts and forthcoming tendering opportunities in the region and Supply2.gov.uk is the official government portal providing small businesses with access to lower-value public sector contracts.
Business opportunities aren't only directly linked to the Games themselves – there are other business possibilities, for example from cultural celebrations; from nations and teams visiting for pre-games training camps; and from the expected boost to tourism. Businesses across West Sussex are being encouraged to become Active Workplaces, as the focus on health increases in the lead up to 2012.
A guide has been produced on how to do business with West Sussex Councils, which will be helpful to suppliers and service providers.
